Matt “Gaff” Gaffny

Crossfit Coach, Crossfit Kids Coach

I started Crossfit about four years ago – I was not happy with my current level of fitness and found it challenging to stick to working out/going to the gym on a consistent basis. I tried Crossfit and really enjoyed it, especially working out under the direction of a coach in a group setting. I spent many frustrated years of trying to work out in isolation, so interacting with others and getting fitter in the process was refreshing.

I coached high school athletics for almost two decades and work in the public school setting so transitioning to coaching Crossfit seemed natural. I liked being able to help others and make connections with members. I signed up to take the L1 course and went through our coaching program. From there, I had a strong desire to start a Crossfit Teens program as well so, with the support of Mike and PJ, took the Crossfit Kids course and kickstarted Rail Trail Teens in November 2016.
